Mission Statement

Montessori Island School does not discriminate based upon age, race, religion or physical disability. At this time, MIS accepts Toddler children that are walking, (approx. 13 months), to First Grade children six years of age.

The admissions procedure at MIS is a two-fold process. It is designed to give parents an opportunity to learn about the school, its philosophy and policies, and to meet our faculty. It also gives us an opportunity to assess each child's situation and determine whether we are able to meet the needs and expectations of the parents. Our goal is to enroll families who will both benefit from and contribute to the school community. Tours are available by appointment.

MIS is open year round for enrollment, however, parents are given the option of a 10 month contract for enrollment for the regular school year which is from August to June. Summer enrollment is available under a separate registration with more scheduling and payment options. Tuition can be paid as one lump sum at the beginning of the school year with a 4% discount, (see below), or for families convenience, in 10 equal installments on the 15th of each month for the following month. For example, October's tuition payment is due September 15th, November's tuition is due October 15th, and so on. There are no tuition allowances for absence due to sickness or family vacations, public holidays, school scheduled vacation days or professional training days, (see school calendar on home page).

Financial Aid is available for families that qualify within income restrictions. This includes Wesley House subsidies for young children, VPK, (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten), subsidies for children that are 4 years old as of September 1st of the current school year, and the McKay Scholarships, available to elementary and some special needs kids. Because MIS has been awarded the status of a FLORIDA STATE GOLD SEAL SCHOOL, these subsidies and partial scholarships are of a higher amount and/or greater availability than at other schools.
